5 questions every entrepreneur should ask before a digital project

You do not need to be a tech expert to make good decisions. These five questions make sure your project starts on the right foot.

You have an idea for an app, platform, or digital tool. Or maybe you know your current systems need replacing. But where do you start? Technology can be overwhelming when it is not your area of expertise. The good news: you do not need to be a developer to ask the right questions.

1. What problem am I solving?

This sounds basic, but it gets skipped surprisingly often. Many projects start with a solution ("we want an app") rather than a problem ("our customers wait too long for quotes").

Start with the problem. Write it down in one sentence. If you cannot do that, the problem is probably not clear enough to build software for.

2. Who will use it?

Building software without knowing who the user is, is like building a house without knowing who will live in it. Is it for your own team? For customers? For both? Each group has different needs, expectations, and technical skills.

3. What is the minimum I can launch?

It is tempting to build the complete picture right away. But the smartest approach is to start with an MVP (Minimum Viable Product): the smallest version that already delivers value. You learn faster what works, spend less on features nobody uses, and can adjust course based on real feedback.

4. How do I measure success?

Before you start building, define what success looks like. It does not have to be complex KPIs. Simple questions will do: How much time does the team save per week? How many customers use the tool after three months? Does customer satisfaction go up?

Without benchmarks, you are building in the dark.

5. What happens after launch?

A digital product is never "done." After launch, the real work begins: processing feedback, fixing bugs, adding new features, and keeping the system up to date. Make sure you reserve budget and attention for this upfront.

A good partner thinks not only about the build, but also about maintenance and ongoing development.
